Org. Setting and Reporting                

The Transport Division/Transport Facilitation and Logistics Section internship is for at least 4 months, up to maximum 6 months.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or section to which they are assigned.

               Responsibilities                

The duties would include, but are not limited to:

- Write qualitative briefs/ reports on transport facilitation and related issues in Asia and the Pacific while evaluate the effectiveness of such policies towards contribution to sustainable development (qualitative analysis, where feasible/applicable),
- Identify and collect information from primary and secondary sources required for the study and select an appropriate methodology;
- Coordinate and liaise, as necessary, with Transport Division experts in ESCAP, to identify key issues;
- Review, analyze and compile the collected data and information, and prepare reports/briefs including the findings and conclusions, incorporating appropriate tables, graphs, charts with references;
- Synthesize the findings of research and prepare possible replication of results in other countries in Asia and the Pacific region;
- Prepare presentations on the work or the findings and outcomes of the internship including lessons learned to the Division's staff; Undertake other work as requested in line with the background/interest

The intern may also be asked to assist in the day-to-day work of the Division if required.  She/he is expected to familiarize him/herself, to a limited extent, with administrative work of the Division and other tasks that are typical of UN organizations.

               Education                

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
               

               Work Experience                

Applicants
-are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, education background the transport/economics and familiarity with research tools/methodologies and quantitative analysis would be desirable
-shall be computer literate in standard software applications;
-have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
-have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
               

               Languages                

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme.  Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
